Is Light Work Scary? Age Ratings and What to Expect

Is Light Work scary? Tense rather than gory: Steam rates it 6 in Germany and 10 in Brazil, with no mature-content warnings. What players felt and what is still open.

How scary is Light Work?

The fear comes from waiting and watching, not from violence. You switch off lights while coworkers stand around the office, and the store page tells you to retreat to the elevator if one of them starts to approach. The listing does not describe any combat, weapons or blood.

The first Steam reviewers describe tension more than shocks. One wrote that their neck hurt from tensing for ten minutes straight; another compared it to running from something in a dream when you can only sprint at half speed; a third said the whole game feels like a dream. All eight reviews posted by October 11, 2026 were positive.

What age rating does Light Work have?

Steam shows ratings that were generated automatically for some countries. They differ a lot, because each system weighs horror differently:

Age ratings in Steam’s store data for Light Work, read October 11, 2026
Country and systemRatingReason given
Germany (Steam’s German rating)6Frightening content (“Ängstigende Inhalte”)
Brazil (ClassInd)10Fear (“Medo”)
Indonesia (IGRS)18Horror (“Horor”)

Is there gore, violence or mature content?

None has been declared. Steam’s mature-content survey covers nudity and sexual content, frequent violence or gore, and general mature content, and the Light Work listing carries none of those notices as of October 11, 2026. No region in Steam’s data bans the game or puts it behind an age gate.

Is Light Work OK for kids?

That depends on the child more than on the content list. Two of the three ratings above are for children, and nothing violent or explicit has been declared; Indonesia’s 18 reflects how strictly that system treats horror as a genre.

A run lasts about a quarter of an hour, so a parent can watch one first. The developer’s official gameplay trailer is only 27 seconds long, a quick way to see what the game looks like. Light Work is in English only.

Does Light Work have jump scares?

Not confirmed either way. The store page does not mention them, and no reviewer has described one directly; one called the action tense in a way that “surprises in its simplicity”. This page will be updated when a full playthrough or the developer answers the question. The rules for dealing with coworkers are on how to play Light Work.
